SHOULD GRH BE WORRIED ?

The new residential developments at 100 Church Street between the New River and Old Park Avenue are nearing completion and will soon be available for sale but where will  a new resident with a car park the vehicle ?

The reason that GRH residents may be interested is the fact that in the original planning document passed by the Council in 2022 the development was described as ‘Car-Free.’ The document goes on to say that both London and Enfield are moving closer to ‘addressing air quality and climate change by facilitating such measures as car-free developments where there are excellent public transport links.’

Mike Rye, one of our local  Town Ward Councillors, was on the Planning Committee when the original application was put before the Council and tells us, ‘I raised an objection when it was put before the Planning Committee as ‘Car-Free’ is a nonsense’.

There are parking facilities but only for three ‘blue-badge’ vehicles. But what happens when someone wants to buy an apartment but already has a car – a description that probably fits the majority of potential buyers. Michael Rye reminds us that if a car owner applies for a Resident’s Parking Permit they have to give their address. Therefore residents of 100 Church Street should officially have their permit request refused by the Council.

If the permit, for some reason, is issued the nearest official  parking space is Gentleman’s Row or Chase-Side.

The plans for the development include 140 Long Stay Cycle Parking Spaces in the South Block and 96 in the North Block at basement level

The two blocks have a total of one, two and three bedroom ‘High End Apartments’. GRH has seen a copy of the Sales Brochure that describes the development as, ‘Quality new homes on a prominent and picturesque corner of Enfield Town.’ The illustrations include a very attractive picture of River View

Now that the scaffolding is coming down a Sales Office is expected to appear on the site. GRH intends to make general enquiries at the office and we will ask where we can park our car.
