HANGING BASKETS  -  WHO PAYS ?

THE ANNUAL DISPLAY OF HANGING BASKETS FILLED WITH SUMMER FLOWERS IS NOT THE WORK OF THE COUNCIL BUT RATHER A GROUP OF GRH VOLUNTEERS AND MAINLY STEVE AND NANCY.

Each year it starts Mid-May with a trip to Clock House Nursery in Steve and Nancy’s van. This May trailing Petunias offered the best option to put on a good show. This year GRH spent £190 on purchasing enough flowers and compost bags to fill the twenty seven baskets required. The Petunias  were then taken to Steve and Nancy’s garden where more GRH volunteers formed a production line to ‘plant-up’ all the baskets then leave them for a week to settle and be watered.

A week later Steve, Nancy and their four sons spent  hours up ladders attaching what were now very heavy soil-filled baskets to a number of chosen lamp posts. In the Autumn the baskets will be removed from lamp posts and the plants and soil composted.

Before that a larger group of GRH residents take it in turns to keep the baskets watered every day. As they  are being watered, passing residents often make comments about how much the twenty seven baskets are appreciated. Occasionally someone will ask, ‘Who pays for them?’

The answer is, ‘You Do’.

A small percentage of the subs you pay goes towards buying the plants each year.

IT’S SO CHEAP – JUST £10 per RESIDENCE

SO AMAZING !

If your GRH ANNUAL SUBS  (2026) are still due for renewal there are two ways to pay:

NEW COUNCIL

TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION - TWICE

ENFIELD’S NEWLY ELECTED CONSERVATIVE COUNCIL HAVE WASTED NO TIME IN CANCELLING TWO MAJOR PROJECTS PASSED BY LABOUR DURING THEIR TWELVE YEARS IN POWER.

·     The new Council wrote letters to the Government and London Mayor saying that they were withdrawing from the New Towns Programme. This specifically means that Enfield will no longer support  the building of 21,000 new homes in Crews Hill on largely green-belt land.

·     Unfortunately, at the time of the Council sending their letter London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, was making a speech in which he said City Hall will ‘actively explore’ releasing parts of the green-belt in a bid to end London’s chronic shortage of housing.

·     The letter sent to the Government said that Enfield supported redeveloping brownfield land and that the Council would work with the Government to deliver new homes. A couple of days later Prime Minister Starmer gave a speech specifically mentioning Enfield Council accusing them of ‘blocking growth’.

·     Another letter  from the Council went to  Spurs Football Club that won planning permission from the previous Council for a Women’s Football Training Centre at Whitewebbs Country Park. However, the twenty-five year lease of the park that was needed to proceed with the development had not been signed by the previous Labour Administration at the time of the election. This conveniently gave the new Council the opportunity to abandon the deal which they then formally did.

·     The Council’s decision was great news for local campaign group ‘Save Whitewebbs Park.’ It is excellently organized and has been extremely active following Spur’s initial interest.  Their fund-raising has been very effective and they have received more than £34,000 from 1032 different pledges.

·     No reply to the Council’s letter has yet been received from Spurs.

SUNDAY DRIVERS

MORE PARKING PROBLEMS

In recent weeks there has been increasing pressure on ours and other local roads from people attending services and events at the reopened St Paul’s Church now St Georges Cathedral.

Some of the parking has been unsafe and illegal with vehicles parked on pavements, grass verges and left across driveways. This is both inconsiderate and dangerous for residents, particularly those with reduced mobility or rely on home care services and emergency responders.

To report unsafe or illegally parked vehicles to Enfield Council call the Parking Shop directly at 020 3856 0036

(Monday –Saturday 7.00 am – 10.00 pm) and  Sundays (7.00am-7.00pm)

For urgent, dangerous obstructions out of hours contact the Council Emergency Line at 020 8379 1000.

The Council takes action on the following parking violations:

* Parking on School Entrance markings

* Double parking (More than 50cm from the kerb

* Parking on pavements or verges (unless in a designated bay)

*  Parking in disabled bays without a valid Blue Badge

* Blocking dropped kerbs or waiting restriction lines (yellow)
