A GROUP WITH PLANS
TO REVITALISE ENFIELD
GRH has this week been invited to join the newly established organisation called Enfield Town Action Team.
Members of the group already include representatives from major Enfield organisations including Enfield Society, Palace Shopping, Love Your Doorstep-Enfield,, Enfield Council and the Dugdale Arts Centre.
The aim of the group is to revitalise and improve the Town Centre encouraging more people to the town day and night to visit hospitality venues, activities and events. They also aim for a cleaner town that meets the needs of all communities.
It’s too late to catch the group’s first big free event which is an Outdoor Cinema on the Library Green showing both Lion King and Grease next Saturday (October 3rd) Unfortunately all tickets are now gone.
However, in future GRH will be able to bring you news of events as soon as they are confirmed.

RUBBISH IS NOT WHAT IT WAS
SUMMER IS THE WORST TIME OF THE YEAR FOR LITTER AND WITH THE HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD CHASE GREEN HAS BEEN BADLY AFFECTED THIS YEAR
GRH has always maintained that the public litter bins just don’t work during the Summer months. They are too small. They fill up very quickly with cartons, packets and bits of left over food. As they overflow onto the grass it’s difficult to know who or what is responsible - careless people or the foxes and other creatures.
But in the Winter months the problem isn’t the same. There are fewer scraps for the foxes and magpies as fewer people leave less rubbish.
The good news is that the Council Cleansing Department are now emptying the bins on the same day that they collect our household rubbish so by Wednesday lunch Chase Green Gardens is reasonably tidy. This, however, doesn’t help with the rubbish casually left by non-resident cars parked along the road between the Church and the Gentleman’s Row roundabout.
It seems that the new Council have found 28 vacant posts in the Street Cleansing Team. These are now being advertised. It’s unknown whether cleaning GRH hedgerows as well as the bins will be included. The Council minister for the environment has said that the 28 new staff members should have a ‘positive effect’ on keeping the town tidy.

ENTER PHOTO COMPETITION
In the August newsletter we mentioned the Photographic Competition that the Enfield Society are organising as part of the celebrations for their 90th Anniversary of the Society.
The theme of the competition is ‘My Enfield’ and you can submit up to three photographs that capture the places, people, buildings, landscapes and stories that make Enfield special. Cash prizes are available for winners and the twelve shortlisted photos will be displayed in public.
THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS OCTOBER 30 @ 6.00pm

A FASCINATING WEBSITE THAT
SIMPLY ADORES ENFIELD CHASE
An increasing number of GRH Residents are bringing matters of interest to our attention.
The most recent is one of those residents suggesting we take a look at a website under the name of WHEREE (The double ‘e’ at the end is intentional).
When he clicked on for interest he simply entered ‘Millennium Fountain’ and was fascinated with the kind of information that was included:
‘The Millennium Fountain is a charming public space located in Enfield, offering visitors a serene environment to relax and enjoy nature. With picturesque views along the New River, it features lovely wildlife including ducks and squirrels, alongside decorative trees and a peaceful sundial.
‘The area serves as a delightful retreat for both residents and tourists making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks and quiet reflection.’

SO THE RECORD BREAKING SUMMER IS OVER
If we needed to know for sure then the GRH Hanging Baskets have been taken down for another year.
This year the baskets were attached to the lamp posts for an amazing five months. They survived our excessively hot Summer thanks to the care of the GRH volunteers made up of committee members and other residents. On occasions with temperatures as high as 34 degrees the plants were watered twice a day and often fed with Liquid Seaweed Plant Food.
The plants, Trailing Petunias, are bought every year from Clock House nursery and this year the cost was £187 for the 30 baskets. In the past people have presumed that it was the Council that were responsible for planning the baskets each year. They are though paid each year by GRH members as a proportion of the annual subs members pay.
There has though been a problem for years with the Holly Walk lamp posts that the Council say are too high to hang baskets. However, at the GRH Committee Meeting on Thursday it was discussed and the decision was made to contact the Council again and discuss the problem further.
GET THE RIGHT APP
This bollard at the top of Holly Walk looked like a car had hit it quite heavily or a delivery van had backed into it.
It was first noticed on Saturday September 12 by a GRH Committee member who reported it on Monday using the ‘Fix my Street’ app. He explained, ‘Using the right app is much easier and quicker than using the Council Website. Upload a photo of what you are reporting and indicate where it is which seems impossible to do on the Council Website. This app is so much better’.
In this case the bollard was repaired on the Wednesday.
